Chapter Sixteen

Miles stood at Candy's desk in Vortex, signing document after document. The pen glided across the paper with ease, but his mind was elsewhere. It had been four months since he and Destiny began dating, and with Christmas just around the corner, Miles was racking his brain to find the perfect gift for her. Their time together had been nothing short of magical.

He smiled as memories of their dates flashed through his mind—the laughter-filled evening they spent trying out different food trucks in the park, the romantic sunset picnic on the beach, and the thrilling day they spent hiking and exploring scenic trails. Each memory brought a warmth to his heart that he had never felt before.

"Focus, Miles," he muttered under his breath, shaking himself back into the present moment. This Christmas gift needed to be special; it needed to show Destiny just how much she meant to him.

Miles froze, pen hovering above the document as his eyes widened in thought. Candy looked up from her computer screen, concern etched across her face. "Are you okay, Miles?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," he replied, forcing a smile. "Just thinking about a gift for Destiny. Something to show her how much I love her."

Candy let out a gasp, her eyes filling with tears. Miles, mistaking her reaction for happiness over his newfound love, pressed on. "I want it to be something personal, something that really speaks to who she is."

"Hey, Candy," Miles began, trying to sound casual. "What kind of gift would you want for Christmas? You know, just out of curiosity."

Candy's eyes sparkled with excitement, earlier tears seeming to vanish as quickly as they came, as she sat up straighter in her chair. "Oh, well, if we're talking dream gifts here... I'd love a pair of limited edition Louboutin heels, maybe a gorgeous designer handbag—the bigger the better, of course. Oh, and tickets to that exclusive island resort where all the celebrities go."

Miles couldn't help but raise an eyebrow as Candy continued to rattle off her extravagant wish list. He knew Destiny was nothing like Candy; she valued experiences and heartfelt gestures far more than material possessions.

"Those are some great options," he said diplomatically, not wanting to offend Candy. "But I think I need to find something that's more suited to Destiny's taste."

Just then, his phone rang, and he glanced down to see Lila's name flashing on the screen. Excusing himself, he moved to a quiet corner of the office to take the call.

"Hey, Lila. What's up?"

"Hey Miles, I just wanted to let you know I found the perfect gift for Destiny," Lila replied, excitement evident in her voice. "I'll text you the details. Trust me, she'll love it."

"Perfect! Thanks, Lila. I owe you one," Miles said, grateful for her help. He eagerly awaited her message, knowing Lila's suggestion would likely be the key to showing Destiny how much she means to him.

Miles pocketed his phone and turned to see Vivienne approaching Candy's desk. Her chestnut hair was pulled back in a loose bun, her light brown eyes sparkled with warmth.
